Whales Developmental Curriculum
Children at Mission Nazarene Preschool benefit from a full developmental curriculum that meets their emotional, physical, social, intellectual and spiritual needs. Our program and environment creat a secure and loving atmosphere grounded in Christian principles. Our music teacher introduces instruments along with new and fun songs. Our Children's Pastor presents an interactive chapel service once a week, which includes music and movement along with a Bible story time.
The preschool program provides experiences that allow the children to be successful. They build self confidence by experiencing activities such as dramatic play, math and science, building blocks, manipulatives, music and movement and creative art. Our program relies on flexibility, letting the children discover and explore our learning centers which will help develop self esteem, decision-making abilities and socialization skills. Time is provided for the children to choose activities that have a special interest to them. Routine schedules are still an important part of learning at this age and will help foster self help skills. An environment that encourages curiosity and offers challenges to stimulate development is the key ingredient to our program.
Your child is now or will soon be a terric two-year old! By now your child has probably mastered one word commands like "no", "mine", "come" and "eat". This next year your child will learn to say hundreds of new words. On average, two year olds learn two to four new words daily. The teachers will help teach your child the skills to communicate with other children and adults.
Your child will participate in circle time. This is when they develop their language skills through use of fun and sily songs. They will learn numbers and letters. Remember this is a fun time to familiarize them with new concepts. We do not believing in drilling the children to learn with new concpets.
It is a good possibility that this is the year your child is showing signs of potty readiness. We will assist in potty training when both you and the teachers feel they are ready.
The entire curriculum and program of Mission Nazarene Preschool is designed to foster self-esteem and decision making abilities that promote the development of your child. We have compiled age appropriate lists for each stage of your child's development and included them in the corresponding classrooms. These are goals our teachers strive to achieve with your child while in the WHALES class:
